2020: Mystery Loves Georgia

In 2020, mystery authors and friends Tammy Kaehler, Kathy Krevat, and Lisa Brackmann were inspired by the amazing success of the Romancing the Runoff auction (put on by romance writers) and knew that the mystery community could also do its part. With RTR’s support, the trio planned the Mystery Loves Georgia auction in a couple of weeks and ended up exceeding their $50,000 goal and sending more than $60,000 to Fair Fight Action.

For Mystery Loves Georgia, more than 200 mystery authors, including Sara Paretsky, T. Jefferson Parker, Laura Lippman, Alafair Burke, Walter Mosley, Attica Locke, Karin Slaughter, Catriona McPherson, Jonathan Maberry, Kate Carlisle, Lee Goldberg, Deanna Raybourne, and many more donated auction items such as autographed books or manuscripts, character names, critiques, book club book visits, and more—and they helped spread the word to generate more bids and donations.

Hundreds of readers and fans placed bids, and the auction’s social media received more than a million impressions. Everyone came together to raise awareness of the importance of the Georgia runoff election along with funds to help get out the vote in the state.

2022: Mystery Loves Democracy

We’re facing another critical election cycle now, in 2022. As crime writers, we adhere to the core belief that justice will be done—and that includes allowing every eligible vote to be counted. That’s what Fair Fight Action stands for, and that’s what we want to support.

Our goal for Mystery Loves Democracy is to raise $100,000, and we’re confident that with more time, more volunteers, and the support of FFA, we’ll get there. Join us.

MYSTERY LOVES DEMOCRACY is a continuation of the project from 2020, but now supports Fair Fight for to support democracy in all U.S. elections.

Lisa Brackmann is the New York Times best-selling author of the Ellie McEnroe trilogy (ROCK PAPER TIGER) and the thrillers GETAWAY, GO-BETWEEN and BLACK SWAN RISING. Her books have been shortlisted for numerous awards, including the Strand Critic’s best-first-novel, SCIBA’s T. Jefferson Parker Award, the Anthony and Left Coast Crime’s Best International Mystery, as well as landing on Amazon’s Top 100 Books of the Year and Top 10 Mystery/Thrillers.

Tammy Kaehler writes the award-winning Kate Reilly Racing Mystery series when she's not managing projects and writing business communications for corporate consulting clients. “As the general election results unfolded, I saw someone say about Georgia, ‘It's not a red state, it's a voter-suppressed state,’” said Kaehler. “So anything I can do to help remove obstacles to eligible voters having a voice, I want to do."

Kathy Krevat is the author of the bestselling Chocolate Covered Mystery series and the Gourmet Cat Mystery series. She has a short story published in the CROSSING BORDERS anthology published in March, and is currently writing a young adult suspense novel. “As mystery authors, we believe that justice will prevail in the end,” says Krevat. “We hope that this effort will contribute to reversing the voter suppression that happens in Georgia and other states.”
